The Victorian seaside town of Ilfracombe in North Devon has something to offer everyone that visits. From its quaint harbour overlooked by artist Damien Hirst’s statue ‘Verity’ to its famous Tunnels Beaches.

Westwell Hall is ideally located for guests looking to enjoy the South West Coast Path with the well loved footpath easily accessed from behind the house within a five to 10 minute walk. As well as the Coast Path, which allows guests to see some spectacular scenery and wildlife there are two other circular walks available directly from behind the house. The town is mostly known for its beautiful harbour where guests can relax on one of the benches or set sail on a sea safari around the North Devon coastline. There are also several pretty restaurants and cafes around the harbour and Ilfracombe Aquarium is well worth a visit.

On either side of the town are beaches such as Wildersmouth, which is accessed via the South West Coast Path, Rapparee Cove and Hele Cove, both of which are ideal for rock pooling.

Tunnels Beaches, which are only a short walk from Westwell Hall, are one of Ilfracombe’s most famous attractions. Four tunnels carved through the rocks in the 1800s to access the beach transformed the character seaside fishing town into a popular tourist resort for the Vicrtorians. Once through the tunnels guests will discover a stunning secluded beach with a tidal pool.

Continuing the Victorian theme, Watermouth Castle on the outskirts of Ilfracombe is a great attraction for all the family and is just one of the many nearby attractions that are sure to keep everyone entertained no matter what the weather. Other nearby places to visit include Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, Exmoor Zoo, Arlington Court and Quince Honey Farm.

If looking to get out and about whilst staying at Westwell Hall, Ilfracombe is located on the Southwest Coast Path making it a great place to enjoy a number of coastal walks; cycling is also popular with routes suitable for both beginners and those looking for something more challenging. Horse riding is available at the nearby Mullacott Riding Stables, where guests with experience are able to participate in thrill seeking beach rides. Other activities nearby include quad biking, clay pigeon shooting and of course surfing and other water sports, which are easily accessible at the award winning Woolacombe Beach, which is less than a 10 minute drive from Westwell Hall.
